Your journey as an ALUT volunteer will involve accompanying and guiding adults with autism through their daily activities and routines. You will have the privilege of witnessing their growth, celebrating their achievements, and being a part of their journey towards greater self-sufficiency.

Volunteer in Alut is a opportunity that gives a sense of purpose, in addition to the rich cultural experience in Israel. The hostel take care of a small group, which means that they receive very individualized treatment. They are located in a hight and green area that provide us everyday a wonderful sunset. first of all, I would like to note that I like my job and it is not just a "daily routine", so-called, it is helping to people who need it very much. and it is with great joy and love that I give invaluable care to our friends .the location of my home and work is the same location, exactly the same building, and I really like, let's say, living at work. because it takes a maximum of one minute to get to my workplace.  This is really cool. for a longe  time the hostel where I live has become a real home for me. I have arranged my room on my own specifically the way I like and feel comfortable, the rest of our big house together with friends is also a home for me. It's just like the kind and lovely neighbors on the kibbutz.

Israel is a country of a nice climate, vibrant culture and friendly people. As a volunteer here, I take part in the overall maintenance of our hostel, but also in fun activities with friends - from various games, such as solving puzzles, to the sport and dancing. One of the things that makes our hostel special is diversity which works unexpectedly well - both with the friends and the workers. When referring to the City of Jerusalem itself, it is a special place rich in history, but it is also a paradise for foodies! The current situation in Israel does not affect me much personally except for not being able to travel around completely carefree. I believe that being here volunteering is important because doing good things is important! And to conclude, we all truly work together as a team here!

My name is Julia, I'm nineteen years old and come from the Ruhr area in Germany. I came to Israel after graduating high school to volunteer at a home for autistic people in the north of Tel Aviv. Now my year is almost over and I am about to return to Germany. Before coming here I had no experience in working with people on the autistic spectrum. But I fell in love with my workplace very quickly. I feel that it is a very unique place. Taking care of the friends, leading them through their day and making them a home has thought me a lot. Being patient and not getting frustrated over the friend's obsessions, staying calm in the chaos that we sometimes face and adapting to the individual needs of the friends are some examples. But the biggest lesson was that it is possible to connect to people that are very, very different from ourselves. This really gives me hope in our rapidly moving world full of hostility, prejudice and pressure to perform. The friends don't care about nationality, looks, status and money. They simply don't judge. They live at their own pace and are their unapologetic selves everyday. And I think that's what makes this place so beautiful

I spent round about a year working at the hostel and even though it was during the pandemic, it was a great experience! I had fun playing games, dancing, doing art and even learned some Hebrew words to communicate with the friends. Everyone, including the staff and our social worker, was really nice to us, always there if we had any problems. I lived with other volunteers and we became such good friends, that we still keep in touch, even though it is already 3 years since I left the hostel. I love and miss so much the time I was there, and I’m pretty sure, you will feel like this as well!
